Marathon study
Various performance enhancing nutritional supplements have been developed and marketed worldwide with significant success in muscle building, resistance and strength enhancement. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of supplementation of the salmon protein hydrolysate AMIZATE® on body weight, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), exercise endurance, running speed, heart rate, sleep quality as well as overall strength, energy, overall wellbeing, memory and mental alertness, of world class athletes preparing for competitive marathon running. The test was conducted with 8 male volunteer participants aged between 25 and 37 years. The subjects were randomly divided in to two groups: placebo and experimental. The baseline was recorded. The test group took 10.0 g/day of AMIZATE® enriched chocolate powder dissolved in mango orange juice. The placebo group received 10.0 g/day of chocolate powder mixed in mango-orange juice. The experiment began the last week of September 2010 and ended the first week of December 2010. Significant difference between the base line, placebo, and AMIZATE® treatment was found. AMIZATE® treatment resulted in a reduced heart rate to 35-37, while the placebo group had 38-39 beats/min.
AMIZATE® improved running speed by 5.8 %, reduced body weight by 4.5 %, WC by 4.5 %, BMI by 6.04 %, while increasing running endurance, muscle strength, and overall wellbeing of the athletes compared to baseline and placebo. AMIZATE® test subjects reported absence of muscle pain, better sleep, improved skin color and elasticity, increased nail and hair growth, better eye sight, elevated sex drive, and mental alertness. Body odor and bowel movement remained unchanged with the AMIZATE® treatment. There was no reported adverse reaction related to the AMIZATE® beverage.
